What is Semaglutide

Semaglutide is an FDA-approved weight loss medication for use in children and adults and is extremely safe. The medication works by mimicking the effects of a natural hormone that helps to regulate blood sugar, appetite, and satiety and has proven to be extremely helpful. Semaglutide has been demonstrated in studies to provide considerable weight loss in people who are overweight or obese. Over 78 weeks, individuals in one trial who took semaglutide lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight. When compared to standard weight loss procedures, this is a significant amount of weight loss.  

Semaglutide is a safe and well-tolerated medication. The most common side effects are nausea, gastrointestinal distress, and heat burn. 

What is Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is another FDA-approved and more powerful weight loss medication that is only approved for adults. It is a newer medication but has shown to be very effective in managing type-2 diabetes and obesity.  Tirzepatide is a GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide – 1) agonist that is similar to semaglutide.

Initial studies have shown Tirzepatide to be more effective in weight loss, Tirzepatide the average patient lost 17.8% of their body weight over 78 weeks compared to semaglutide where the average patient lost 12.4% of their body weight. We offer Tirzepatide to those patients who prefer more rapid weight loss or for those who do not respond to semaglutide.

Preparation

Administering an injection involves a series of meticulous steps to ensure the safe and effective delivery of medication. First and foremost, it is essential to gather all the necessary supplies, including the prescribed medication, a syringe, an appropriate needle, alcohol swabs, and a designated sharps disposal container.

Prior to the injection, meticulous hand hygiene is crucial to minimize the risk of infection. Once the injection site is selected, typically the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, the area is meticulously cleaned with an alcohol swab.

Preparation

Drawing a single dose of injection requires precision and adherence to sterile techniques. Begin by thoroughly washing hands and preparing a clean, flat surface. Gather the necessary supplies: the vial of medication, a syringe, and an alcohol swab. Check the medication label for accuracy and expiration date. Clean the rubber stopper of the vial with the alcohol swab. Draw air into the syringe equal to the prescribed dose, inject it into the vial, and then withdraw the medication. Ensure there are no air bubbles, and the dose matches the prescription. Recap the needle, and the injection is ready for administration.

Application

PART III

After preparing the syringe and removing any air bubbles, the medication is administered with a steady and controlled motion, ensuring the needle is inserted at the correct angle. Post-injection, gentle pressure is applied to the injection site, and the used needle is carefully discarded in a designated sharps container.

Maintaining a detailed record of the injection, including the date, time, and dosage administered, provides valuable information for monitoring and reporting to healthcare professionals.

Disposal

PART IV

Dispose of used syringes safely to maintain a sterile environment. Always follow healthcare provider instructions and guidelines for the specific medication.

Proper disposal of syringes is essential to protect both individuals and the environment. After using a syringe for medical purposes, it should be immediately placed into a designated sharps container. These containers are specifically designed to safely hold used needles, preventing accidental needlesticks and ensuring secure containment. It's important not to recap needles or bend or break them before disposal to minimize the risk of injury.
